LPN vs RN running of time!!?

I am an an adult returning to school - i have a BA but can't do anything with it, i want to go into nursing but the wait to attend the RN program is too long, I am considering going to the LPN program and then going for a RN or BSN- does anyone have any expereince or thought on this?
