Why is it that if you are a girl that wears a lot of makeup, you are considered an idiot or a skank?

I am an intelligent girl that has a pion for makeup, apparently, I am looked at as a bimbo because I like to express my individuality. Why is it that if you like wearing makeup, your automatically looked as an idiot?
