Shouldn't someone in my family have told me?

Today I received a call from my brother who tells me a chilling tale that 6 weeks ago when his daughter fled to their home leaving her schizophrenic husband , he followed the next morning and surprised them all opening shotgun blasts at his entire family while my brother was at the store. My sister in law, seeing him pull up, locked the deadbolt at the second blast to the front door. He then opened fire into the front room containing, aiming and and barely missing his own children and aimed for his wife who fled for a bathroom as my sister in law scrambled upstairs with her grown daughter, grabbed the family gun and had a gunfight from their balcony while this madman hunted them outside their home. He was later arrested, no bail and will be put away forever soon. I was mortified, chilled and also baffled why no one in my family said a word to me. I talk to 2 of 4 sisters frequently, it was never mentioned, like it was a secret, isn't that weird? I am really baffled.
