Has anyone done a loan modification with Citibank?
My mortgage is behind. I am unemployed, but receive unemployment benefits. I have been on a repayment plan with a cheaper mortgage payment for the past year and now they are ready to do a loan modification. In order to do a loan modification the lender wants to see bank statements, check stubs and a list of my income and expenses. Should I present them with my unemployment checks which give me a $500 excess after paying all of my expenses? Which means I can afford the original mortgage, but I would feel more comfortable paying the cheaper mortgage. I would be able to afford the cheaper amount with help. But my unemployment is temporary when I go back to work, I will be making $12/hr, meaning I wont be able to afford my mortgage at ANY rate. My girlfriend was planning to chip in and pay it when I went back to work. Does anyone know if the lender can jack up my mortgage payments beyond the original amount?
